Istanbul, Turkey
The entire time I was in Istanbul, there was a palpable feeling in the air that something was about to happen. Bridges connect Europe with Asia, and rich religious traditions connect the past with the present. Minarets from thousand-year-old mosques pierce the sky next to construction cranes that are busy developing the city's future. Standing anywhere in the immense yet walkable Old City, it is easy to see both where Istanbul has been and where it is going.
