Yellowstone National Park
Established in 1872 as America's first national park, Yellowstone is different everywhere you look. There are serene lakes, dense pine forests, vast pastures, and the world's largest collection of geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles. Sitting on top of a caldera for an enormous active volcano, the super-heated water dissolves the silica within rocks and combines with other chemical elements typically found deep inside the Earth to display an impressive spectrum of colors.
